Olympic Capital since 1994, is proud of this title and intends to strengthen this status by reinforcing its sporting identity. The presence of the IOC, together with the Olympic Museum, the Court of Arbitration for Sport and no fewer than 50 sports federations and organisations within its walls, makes Lausanne and its surrounding area the administrative capital of world sport.

2001
Based in this status, the City of Lausanne decided to build a House of International Sport in Lausanne. A limited company, Maison du Sport International SA, was founded with the International Olympic Committee, the Canton de Vaud and the City of Lausanne as equal shareholders. This project was also supported by the Swiss Confederation.

In the same year, Lausanne granted it a 90-year lease on municipal land in the immediate proximity to the International Olympic Committee headquarters, covering more than 5,000m2.

The construction work began this year.

The Maison du Sport International was officially opened on June 23, 2006.

To face new requests of international federations, the decision to add a 4th building was made.

This second stage has been officially inaugurated on May 26, 2011.
